Raimond lived in  Yokohama, Japan where he run his own photographic studio, he trained many Japanese photographers and In 1886, Stillfried sold the majority of his stock to his protégé and Japanese photographer Kusakabe Kimbei. Silver print from glass negative with applied colour was a labour intensive way to create a photograph but the images still give the subject a soft, gentle finish. Raimund’s presence is felt in all his portraits leave the viewer to imagine how his sitters’ felt being in his studio. Here Pineapple Gallery remasters his work giving it a new perspective.
