Framing art prints, or original artwork is a craft, a skill and something we love to do by hand in the Pineapple workshop. Once an artwork is framed by a bespoke framer, it really does show off the art at a different and higher level, the power of a handmade frame is notably different from the ‘off the shelf’ frames you can buy anywhere, it takes a few weeks but usually a frame remains on the artwork for 10-50 years so we think the wait for a handmade is so worth it. With great care, great technical skill, with great machinery, with time, with beautiful archival papers, with love, with attention to detail, with experience, with colour control. Yes it does take several different ingredients / components to make an art print, if you are talking about fine art giclee printing this is a specialised printing method and we make hundreds and hundreds of art prints for people so we can take away the stress and get all the things you need in place so you can simply enjoy your art print. Back in the day the Sumerians (c. 3000 BCE) made art prints by engraving designs and cuneiform inscriptions on cylinder seals usually made of stone and then rolled these over soft clay tablets, leaving relief impressions but for our generation of speed junkies that is not an option. They did however conceived the idea of multiplication and the mechanical principle, the roller ultimately became the printing press. The Europeans loved a bit of royal stamping and would offer the royal imprint with royal seals and signatures, very royal indeed. Art printing on paper naturally developed from textile printing and was introduced by China but Europe caught up and manufactured it’s own paper in 1151 in Spain. We use quite a lot of german manufactured papers from the company Hahnemuhle whom we love, the Germans have a knack for making things of great quality and the fine art papers we offer from hahnemuhle never cease to please us.
