How long has the gallery been going?
Esther - I don't remember exactly, the menopause is obliterating my brain cells, the struggle is real.
Nick - since the beginning of covid.
What is your role in the gallery?
Esther - art direction / curation / designer / creative partner
Nick - tech honcho / bespoke frame maker / creative partner
Why did you open a gallery?
Esther - Because I love art.
Nick - Because I love my wife.
Why did you decide to leave the streets and go online?
Esther - to reset our intentions and evolve
Nick - we didn’t want to line the pockets of an unscrupulous landlord and we wanted to re-imagine the gallery’s ongoing evolvement.
How do you see AI affecting the artworld?
Esther - in the right hands anything including AI can assist the creation of beautiful and wondrous things.
Nick - more than ever people will have to trust their taste. AI can’t create anything, art can only come from humans.
Since opening what have been your greatest challenges?
Esther - finding a neutral face whilst pretending to listen to narcissistic art critics / acting on the value of going slow / making time for my own personal work
Nick - opening a business at the beginning of a pandemic / ghosts and spiders.
What have been your highlights so far?
Esther - Eti Elbor / V&E installations / harnessing young talent and watching humans we actively believe in, gain confidence / power drilling the concrete floor
Nick - building something with my wife.
What are you currently working on personally?
Esther - my own mixed media work

Esther - House of Pineapple / continued work with artists / archival printing / actively pausing for thought

What advice do you have for emerging artists?
Esther - no one is that original / let your work speak for itself
Nick - don’t be a twat, be sincere.
Which one piece of artwork do you love the most in your gallery and why?
Esther - Twinkle Troughton’s ‘Imagined Woodlands’ makes my heart swoon.
Nick - ‘Bread + Honey=Money’ by Ray Monday.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start an art gallery?
Esther - find beauty in your own process / buy a good ladder
Nick - take the art seriously, but not yourself, and you’ll do ok

Esther - all our children
