These photographs were taken seventeen years after he first photographed Mariposa Grove and Yosemite, two of his favourite subjects. Some of the images are Yosemite landscapes the others are of the great sequoia trees in Calaveras Grove.

Watkins used a bespoke medium format camera with oversized plates then masked the negatives during the print process. Check out our blog on Carleton to learn more about his life as renowned photographic artist.
